Heavy rain in Dakshina Kannada: Vacation for school and college
Heavy rains are falling in Dakshina Kannada district and the district administration has declared holiday for schools and colleges as a precautionary measure.
Heavy rain with thunder, lightning and wind has been pouring continuously since last 24 hours in Dakshina Kannada district including Mangalore, Belthangadi, Puttur. Low-lying areas are filling up in many places, water is standing on the roads and traffic is being obstructed.
As a result of which the movement of children will be disturbed, the District Collector Dr. KV Rajendra has announced a holiday for schools and colleges until further orders.
Officials of the Indian Meteorological Department said that 24.8 cm of rain fell in Nada of Udupi district and 21 cm in Mavalli of Dakshina Kannada district from Wednesday to Thursday morning at 8.30 am.
The rains that have been pouring in the coastal areas for the past few days will continue for the next four days. Coastal Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts have been issued an 'Orange Alert' on Friday due to heavy rains.
